Acquisition of historical subjectivity and overcoming cultural traumas in the historical narratives of the creative intelligentsia of kazakhstan (1951 - 1991)

The scientific supervisor of the project is Krupko Igor Vladimirovich, Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Implementation period: 2024-2026

The goal of the project is to study the process of overcoming cultural hierarchies, historical fault lines and traumas by the creative intellectuals of Kazakhstan through the search and creation of historical narratives in 1951 - 1991, which determined the acquisition of historical and national subjectivity by Kazakhstani society, embodied in independent Kazakhstan. Humanitarian aspects and the formation of an ideological platform for the sustainable development of Kazakhstani society during the designated period will be explored.

Objectives of the project:

1. Collection of materials: documentary and narrative sources, archival video chronicles, feature films. The collection of materials will be carried out in the archives and libraries of Almaty, Astana, Moscow, St. Petersburg. This will make it possible to compile and systematize the source base both for the research itself and for further use as a historical and cultural heritage with the aim of its further popularization. We have already collected some materials as part of several interviews with representatives of the Kazakh intelligentsia (Olzhas Suleimenov, Murat Auezov, etc.), as well as the preparation of several collections on this topic as an editor in 2021-2023.

2. Determination of the initial archetypes, historical conditions, intellectual forms and ideological content of the narratives of the creative intelligentsia of Kazakhstan in the period before 1951 and the study of the key factors that determined the trends and transformations of the historical narratives of the creative intelligentsia of Kazakhstan in the 1950-1960s. The implementation of this task will allow us to explore the conditions in which the formation of the above-mentioned historical narratives began and determine the intellectual and ideological horizon of the era, which representatives of the Kazakh intelligentsia were able to overcome.

3. Studying the history of interaction between the creative intelligentsia of Kazakhstan and the system of ideological attitudes, cultural hierarchies and priorities that formed the basis of the social existence of the period under study and dialogue with world culture, as well as with the scientific intelligentsia. This will allow us to explore the non-binary history of the dialectical interaction of the national intelligentsia with the Soviet system.

4. Identification of the main plots and images of historical memory in the narratives of the creative intelligentsia of Kazakhstan in 1951-1991. This will allow us to trace the semiosis of the narratives under study and determine the extent of their influence on the subsequent period - 1991-2023.

5. Approbation of the results of scientific research in foreign and Kazakh scientific publications and conferences. The implementation of this task will make it possible to prepare and publish articles summarizing the scientific conclusions and results of the project in journals included in the databases Scopus, Web of Science, CQASHE, etc., as well as make relevant reports at national and international conferences.

6. Updating the research results taking into account the priorities of the domestic and foreign policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of popularizing cultural heritage and building knowledge societies. As part of this task, it is planned to create a documentary film “Self-awareness of Kazakh culture: the acquisition of historical subjectivity in the twentieth century,” create a virtual Lecture Hall “History of Ideas” (on the Zoom platform with broadcast on the YouTube channel) and hold an international scientific conference on the topic of the project. This will make it possible to effectively popularize the ideological platform for the sustainable development of Kazakhstani society.

7. Organization of scientific internships for members of the research group in order to improve their skills in leading domestic and foreign research centers. The implementation of this task will make it possible to train 1-2 young scientists during the implementation of the project, who in the future will be able to independently continue research and popularization of the ideological platform for the sustainable development of Kazakhstani society.
